The Islamic Azad University appreciated Rio 2016 Olympic medalists and international Iranian football referees.
According to IAU public relations, IAU students who received medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics Games were received by the head of IAU board of directors and founding board, Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, IAU president, Dr. Hamid Mirzadeh, and IAU Sports Deputy, Dr. Mohammad Hossein Dadkan at the Expediency Discernment Council.
In this ceremony, Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani emphasized the importance of knowledge and science while noting that sports is a very real requirement for a healthier, more joyful, and more ethical society and also announced new plans which is building a large stadium in Tehran.
Dr. Mirzadeh pointed to the value of sports in decreasing social problems and stated that as part of the IAU strategic plan, developing and expanding sports spaces has been placed on the agenda of the university. Also, the IAU board of trustees has approved the statute for a Cultural-Sports Club that will be established soon in provincial capitals.
Dr. Dadkan expressed his satisfaction regarding the presence of 3 IAU students as referees in the Rio 2016 final competitions and the recent activities of the university in forming 20 (male and female) sport teams in 12 national leagues.
The IAU board of directors has considered free education, providing facilities for higher education, 100 million Iranian Rials in cash, and employment opportunities as rewards for medalists in Rio 2016.
